Jenny Nguyen’s Pro Tips For First-Time Ravers

Listen up, EDM newbies.

First-time ravers have so much to look forward to! There’s no experience on earth that compares to the excitement of EDM festivals, and everybody always remembers their first one.

Before you head out to your first electronic music festival, there’s an unspoken list of “do’s and don’ts” that will make for a smoother experience. So, we got together with our EDM expert Jenny Nguyen for a few tips and tricks to make sure all you rave babies have the best time possible. Read on for five simple tips to keep in mind if you or anyone you know will be heading out to their first rave!

1. Go with people you trust

For first timers, I recommend going with people you really trust and care for your well-being. No matter what type of experience at the festival is, at least you are with good company. I was lucky to be with people I loved spending time with and that cared for me my first rave at Countdown 2015. The company you’re with is like 90% of the experience in my opinion 🙂

2. Use a fanny pack

Carry a camelback for water and fanny pack kept in front of you with all your essentials like ChapStick, wallet, tickets, ID, makeup, gum etc. Check for all of these before you leave the car and house and go to the bathroom outside of the venue as much as you can because port-o-potties aren’t always the cleanest (ಠ▃ಠ). It’s so important to keep sipping water throughout the night because it’s a long evening of walking and dancing and you need to stay hydrated to be conscious and have an optimal experience 😉 look out for your friends make sure they keep drinking theirs too. You’re probably going to want to keep your fanny pack in front of you or zipped up in your pants because as much as the culture can be so awesome and loving at festivals, there are always a few bad eggs looking to steal your stuff and take advantage of intoxicated festival goers. Just stay on the lookout and constantly check your stuff 🙂

3. Pace yourself

When it comes down to taking substances like drinking or smoking, you should pace yourself. Have a good enough time to where you can enhance your experience but still be conscious enough to experience it lol. Remember that you can always take in more little by little but you can never take less. This is also why you should be with good company who care for you n watch over you. Be as responsibly irresponsible as you can (if you get what I mean) so your night doesn’t get cut short or your friends’ night cut short because they have to babysit you.

4. Meet new people

Meet new people, there are so many other ravers who are there for a good time and enjoy themselves and escape reality for a little. Trade candy, offer some gum, Vicks, whatever to a fellow raver in need and keep the PLUR culture alive ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ ✌

5. Plan ahead

Check the weather for the days of so you can dress accordingly! Make sure there’s a sober enough DD to take you back or UBER/Lyft back. If your first experience wasn’t as expected, don’t be discouraged! There are plenty more experiences to be had and they could all be completely different! My first one actually is my least favorite but I still enjoyed it with the people I love!
