Maya Trang Isn’t Quite Ready For Bed

Sleep will be the last thing on your mind.

Maya Trang gets up close and rather personal in this bedtime set from photographer Larry Gamboa. The Asian model may be in bed in these pics, but this frisky vixen won’t be going to sleep anytime soon. Maya is ready for some late-night fun, and she’ll get things started by peeling off her top.

Take a few minutes to admire Maya’s bod, while Larry gives you the 411 on this intimate bedroom shoot for this week’s Photographer Interview.

Photographer: Larry Gamboa – @gamboaphotodesign

Can you introduce yourself and tell us how you got into photography?

My name is Larry Gamboa (aka @gamboaphotodesign) and I’m a photographer from San Diego, CA. I caught the photography bug when I was enrolled in a graphic communications class in high school. Back then I was shooting with film and learning to develop in the darkroom. I always had the passion for taking photos so I would bring my point and shoot camera to places I travel as well as nightlife events I attend. When I bought my first DSLR camera I shot portraits, maternity, and events but I got bored very quickly. I started shooting architecture and got into long exposure photography, both of which I still enjoy. One day my best friend sent me this YouTube video called Best Jobs Ever which featured Victoria’s Secret photographer, Russell James. The video tells the journey of how he became a fashion photographer which gave me the inspiration to shoot fashion and glamour. So my journey into fashion/glamour photography began about 4 years ago.

Where did you draw inspiration for this set and what vibe were you going for?

I draw my inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and 500px as well as photographers and models I follow. I always like to put out a fun-filled vibe when I shoot with anyone. I like to play music as I’m shooting and have a good laugh. I have the best photos with models I can instantly vibe with.

Where did the shoot take place? What made this location the perfect place to set up shop?

I was on the last leg of my 3 week vacation in the Philippines. I struggled to find things to do in Manila on my final days so the shoot happened at a perfect time. I was staying at a high-end hotel in Makati. The hotel rooms were really nice so why not set up a shoot in my room and create some sexy images.

What did you like the most about working with Maya?

I found Maya on Instagram (@mayatrang) and immediately took a liking to her beautiful work. I sent her a DM before I left for my trip to the Philippines. It was tough to find models to shoot with in Manila especially ones that were interested in shooting in lingerie. Thinking that no one was going to return my messages on Instagram, Maya was the only one who replied and we were able to connect when I was over there. The best thing about working with Maya is that she’s very versatile when it comes to looks. She can do anything from fashion to bikini to lingerie to erotic. When we shot in my room, she gave me something completely different from what I was expecting. I had music playing during the shoot and the girl just started to move! There was very little direction coming from me and I was loving every pose she gave me. Maya was awesome and super fun to work with! I’m very proud to say I’ve shot with one of the best FHM Philippines models and I look forward to working with her again when I return to the Philippines.

What kind of camera and lighting set up did you use to achieve the look of this set?

I had no desire to bring my main gear so I had to travel light during my trip abroad. I shot with a 50mm lens on my Nikon D610 with a single off camera speedlite that was attached to a lightstand and octobox.

What inspires you to keep shooting?

I like the fact that shooting photos keeps me very busy and out of trouble 😉 Haha! My passion allows me to travel and explore amazing places I would never dream of visiting. I love getting creative with people and having a good time. Meeting and connecting with new people is the best part of it all. I’ve met some amazing people along the way on this journey, and they’re the ones who inspire me.

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

Photoshop is very important when it comes to enhancing the final product. How you edit your photos is a representation of your own work. To me, Photoshop is used for color correction, skin smoothing and blemish removing, correcting little imperfections, and creating the mood of the photos. I try not to do the Photoshop “cosmetic surgery” like what you see in the mainstream magazines.
