With everything going digital, from our news feeds to the way we shop, it is no surprise that it has given rise to a new type of celebrity, specifically in the social media sphere. Rachel Kelly, the beautiful mixed Asian model who always lights up our Instagram feeds with sexy photos, is part of a new generation – The Instafamous Model.
It seems like everyone wants to be famous these days, but believe it or not, some popular social media stars give up on the “being famous” thing altogether, retiring to a quiet life among us regular folk. One of those stars is our beloved Rachel Kelly, who announced earlier this week that she is leaving the modeling industry.
Of course, we couldn’t let one of our favorite Asian models leave without a proper farewell. So, we caught up with Rachel to discuss her sudden departure from modeling, what she’ll miss the most, and her new direction in life.

Hey Rachel, thank you for spending some time with Foxy Asia Magazine. How’s everything going?
Hey no problem, everything’s going well thanks for asking.
We were hoping you could start off with telling us a little bit about yourself. What is your ethnicity and where do you live?
I’m Filipina mixed with a quarter Irish living in the South Bay Area California.
You’re obviously a very attractive woman, can you tell us how you got into modeling? Was it something you always wanted to do?
I got into modeling after doing a couple photo shoots just for the fun of it. After taking those pictures and posting them on my socials it led to me being contacted by other photographers, clothing brands, and events. Once that ball was rolling I began to take all modeling work seriously. Modeling was never something I had always set my mind to doing. I guess I can say I was thrown into the industry, it was never the plan to get as far as I did.
You were blowing up on Instagram, with a large and loyal fan base; you worked with some of the best photographers in the industry. Why did you suddenly decide to leave modeling?
There were some personal life reasons that made me decide to leave the modeling industry. Aside from those reasons, it was also a decision that I chose to make on my own as well. I wanted to shift my focus onto some of the more important aspects in life that matters most & step out of the spotlight. Some say I stepped out when I was killing it. Sure, that may be true & it also made it difficult for me going forward with my decision being that my following & fan base was very rapidly growing.
What is the fondest experience you’ve ever had on a photo shoot?
I really liked outdoor shoots and getting creative thinking about how to get artistic with it.
What will you miss the most about modeling?
The audience. I’ll miss working events & seeing those who would come up to me already knowing me, buying my merchandise & asking for pictures with me. Then later that same day, I’d see in my notifications that they uploaded that photo taken with me & their caption would be like “finally got to meet @rachel.kelly”. It was a good feeling knowing that meeting me made someone happy.
Maybe you can help some aspiring models with some advice. What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned about the modeling industry?
I’d say to never lose sight of what’s more important in life. Don’t allow yourself to be lost in an industry where it is so easy to just agree to what everyone says they want you to do. Keep it classy, never trashy, and to not give up.
So what new projects will you be focusing on next?
My current focus is to go back to school and finish that as well as find local charities that I can participate in volunteer work. Right now I’m looking at volunteering at the children’s hospital.
Many years from now, when everything is all said and done, what would you like to be remembered for?
I’d like to be remembered as the girl with the big heart & who was kind to every person around her.
Well Rachel, it’s been a pleasure and we appreciate your time. Before we let you go, any final words you’d like to say to your fans and followers? Anyone in particular you’d like to send a shout out to?
Thank you to those who had been following me from the beginning, those who were always a loyal follower, and to those who I have worked with. Most especially, I’d like to send a shout out to Damon for always believing in me and for being the one who saw me to be capable of greater things. Because of him, he’s made me into a better person.
You readers want more Rachel Kelly? You got it. Here’s a few of Rachel’s favorite shots throughout the years.
